OLD YARDS CAUGHT SLEEPING

Playing their first match of the season in the North Midlands shield against Redditch, the Y’s began the match as if they were still on their summer holidays.  By half time Redditch eased into a 19 point lead without reply.   Strong half time words from coach Gary Robinson provided a wake up call as the Y’s began to dominate the set pieces.  A try by Lee Purdy converted by Jamie Walton gave Y’s hope but determined defence by the home team meant a final score of 19 points to 7 points in favour of the hosts.

Other results saw Yards under 23s lose by 35 points to 7 against Pershore 2nds but the super-fit Yards veterans started their season with a fine victory against Pershore 3rds by 30 points to 12.
