UNDEFEATED THIS WEEK

Read on, it is not as good as it first appears. The original fixtures against Kings Norton didn't happen for one reason or another apart from the Devs/under 23/2nds. The 1st xv had a scheduled game but their opponents (to remain nameless at this stage) had obviously read this website and were too scared that they may have become our first scalp. The Vandellas also suffered from opponents crying off and so all we had to watch was our Development xv reinforced by some of our more elderly chaps from the 3rds take on Kings Norton 2nds over at Hopwood. A stiff breeze in our faces for the first half, we defended well and, to be honest, were the most likely team to trouble the scoreboard in the first half but turning round at 0-0 was more than satisfactory. Ralph used his experience to kick long for touch from his own 22 and this caused KN many problems as they were penned into their own half. With Richard Withey looking like a greyhound (the bus variety rather than the speed merchant) and our front five causing them massive problems in the scrums it was only going to be a matter of time before we scored. Yet again Guy 'the Poacher' Smith cut through a gap that didn't exist for our first try. Sheer athleticism from centre Cederic saw him charge down a clearance kick, pirouette, and nudge the ball gently over the line with his soccer-like skills before diving gently on to the ball to register our second try. Cederic, how graceful!! The third try was sheer pace down the wing from our captain and Welsh speedster Ellwyn Male. Ralphy controlled the game from fly half with excellent kicking for position. Two fine conversions plus one crap effort meant a final score of 19-0 to us but well done KN for sticking at it. One final thought. The society ref didn't turn up, our fault probably, so the home team persuaded one of their lads to carry the whistle. A bloke on the touchline said that the ref's normal job was that of a doctor. Well lateral thinking needed. Would you want a rugby ref to solve a serious medical problem, answer obviously 'no'then you couln't really expect a doctor to be a good rugby referee, its obvious really. Thanks to the bloke anyway because as we are all aware no ref means no game.
