Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

Jack (Frost) is the only winner this week.

Heavy frost, sub-zero temperatures all day and a thin layer of snow combined to ensure that the only rugby available to our teams was that kicking ping-pong known sometimes as The Heineken cup version seen on the big screen in the 'Hillbilly Ranch' out in the wilds of Tilehouse Lane.  Sunday morning matches were also cancelled.
Sunday afternoon/evening/night saw the seasonal visit by Santa.  For those who did not know,  Lapland is not far away, possibly in the vicinity of our 3rd team pitch.  Well done to all those 'grown ups' who made the occasion a success.

All Old Yardleians, and also younger ones, are warmly invited to the club on Boxing Day from about lunch time onwards.  Weather permitting the rugby will be an exhibition game featuring Over 30s giving a rugby lesson to the Under 30s.  A little later on it is planned to play some indoor games.  Possiblities include darts, pool, pass the parcel, arm wrestling, belly bouncing, bottle walking, dump the coins and tray bashing.  If any of you young stars have never seen all of these fun activities you might be lucky enough to develop the skills needed for the spoons game and to even play a leading role in the unbelievable 3-man lift. Unfortunately the Health and Safety people have outlawed that thrilling game of 1v1 scrummaging against Rob Dixon.
It is quite likely that you will hear and join in some traditional (non-christmas) singing and our younger lads must make every effort to learn the words as post-match singing is part of the culture of this great game of ours and should be passed down from generation to generation.

Looking ahead, the next set of saturday matches are scheduled for 2nd January when the 1st team and the Vandals travel to play Wolverhampton and the Development xv play host to the same club.  It is possible that our 1st team league game away at Moseley Oak that was called off due to the unplayable pitches might be re-arranged for that day but we arre still waiting to hear confirmation of this.
I wish you Villa fans good luck against the Arsenal but don't feel bad about the result as these things happen from time to time!

Finally, Best Wishes to all our readers for Christmas and the New Year.
