Melted snow equals waterlogged pitches.

Home games at the Yards were not possible but the Devs. got to play at Wednesbury 2nds where defences were more successful than attacks on the day.  It might be of interest to any of our trainspotting anoraks that Wednesbury claim to have the tallest rugby posts in thte country.  Fascinating!

Ellwyn informs me that our boys gained an impressive win by 10 - 5  with walker junior being our points scorer with a try, conversion and penalty but no drop goal to complete the set!  Man of the match was Stuart Adams (no relation to the former Y's star number 10) and  a special mention to the only player in the team over 23 years of age, Steve 'baby face' Cunningham who provided the experience needed by our rising stars.

A number of our younger boys tell me that they really enjoy the stories about the good old days particularly concerning the apres-match events as narrated by Lonie, Sid, Smoking, Dave Jenkins etc.  Yes, I agree that there were many epic happenings but I also suspect that the accuracy of these tales becomes reduced by the passage of time.  In my memory it was not always so mind-blowing.  Rugby protocol in my early Y's career meant gathering at The Plume in order to listen about the secrets of forward play as described by Bert, Blox, Poo Bear, Pugger, Big Al etc. The drink of the day was from a variety of cat wees including Mild, Brew and  Best bitter.  Drugs were compulsory and the choice you had was either Bert's snuff or Al's cigar fumes. What us younger lads really needed was wine, women and song.  For that, however, we discovered that you had to travel north along the Stratford Road to the Robin Hood, where under the guidancee of Hilton things were very different.  Could women ignore a man in tight red trousers, white shirt unbuttoned to the naval and an impressive gold-coloured ingot?  Watch this space.

Marc Chetland  (Camp Hill RFC)
We were saddened to hear recently of the death of Marc.  We as a club offer our prayers and sympathy to Marc's familly and friends.  May he rest in peace.
