Old Yardleians RFC: Club News
PRESIDENT'S DAY
Thu, 29 Apr 2010 01:03
He might not be the prettiest bloke in the club and he might not be the best player we've ever had but no doubt about it Mr Steve Walter Sidwell is, by far, the best president that we have at this current time. Whatever the weather Sid warmly invites you to the club on Saturday 1st May to celebrate the conclusion of a fascinating season.
The first xv are given a deserved rest after the thrills and spills of the season. Autograph hunters should be able to find their first team favourites at the club performing a range of valuable duties. Well done lads and bring your kit just in case! The Development boys have a game against Kings Norton, kick-off at 2.00. The super stars, i.e.the Vandals, have a tricky match against Tamworth, kick-off at 3.00.
Our minis and juniors are planning a Dads v Lads special. For times and details contact your team managers or Shannon.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The club AGM took place last week and with one position yet to be finalised most roles were unchanged and a full list will be published shortly.
ANNUAL CLUB DINNER
This will be held at the club next friday with guest speaker being Ben Kay. Tickets at £40 are available from S.W. Sidwell and are selling like rock cakes (I think that means fast) so get yours asap. Non-members are warmly invited.
MATCH REPORTS
Last saturday saw the Vandals take part in the Edwardians annual tournament. In high temperatures (according to Bill Burrows) we progressed as far as the semi-finals where we slipped up to the eventual winners. However, in terms of style our lads certainly had the best dress-sense and every drop of alcohol was deserved after a great season. Well done captain/manager Martyn Cartwright and all the lads, too many to name in one go!
Priceys boys, the under 14s, had an exciting game on sunday against Birmingham Exiles. With a number of younger lads on debut end to end rugby was produced in a Yards win of approx. 44-34. Callum, son of punchy Dave Hanson, scored 3 tries, Jack Price 2 and Tyrell A-J (mini-Fridge) ran through many tacklers to score a memorable try. This coming Sunday the boys travel to the 'end of the runway' i.e. Exiles, to play them again as part of their club's Presidents Day, kick-off 12 noon.
QUIZ
At the club on Friday May 21st, max of 6 in a team, £2 per player, starts at 7.30. Rumours are that the Bloxham Lad is bringing a team so added pressure on the Gouldbournes.
FRIENDS OF THE CLUB
Best wishes to Dave Dennis (Spartans RFC), Dai Staples (Tondu RFC), Tony Mahon (OYRFC) and last but not least Ian Ferguson (OYRFC) who we bumped into at a Party held at an African Themed Garden Centre. Will Dave Jenkins pay 3 grand for a zebra?
