Old Yardleians RFC: Club News
A sunny September means that we have a new rugby season
Thu, 02 Sep 2010 02:00
Yes, it has happened again. August weather that would really suit a game of rugby is followed by september weather that cricket fans enjoy.
However, Brian has got all 3 pitches in top class condition and the clubhouse looks equally impressive so let's get on with it.
Minis and Juniors
This sunday (sept 5th) is registration day at the club between 10.00 and 10.30 followed by training. New players are warmly invited and can turn up at the club and make themselves known.
Dave (Chicken) Hansen will be absent as it is his final athletics match of the season but the under 15s will still carry on without their backs coach just for this week and we will shortly welcome two new assistant coaches in Sam and Haydn, who I have dragged screaming out of the STA academy. Thanks lads!
Seniors
After a disappointing season for our first team came a summer of soul searching as well as hard graft in training sessions. If the 15 a side tournament was anything to go by then I suspect we will be a considerable force in the league this time round.
The Development squad should be looking forward to an exciting year. In a way their results are not crucial as long as the young guys show the improvement needed to get them into the first team.
The Vandals have already shown what can be expected from them as they gave a lesson in effective rugby combined with clinical finishing (apart from goal kicking) to Hants Div 2 outfit Lymmington Mariners.
All 3 of our senior teams are playing at home on saturday (4th sept) with 3.00 kick off times. Tom Power (fixture sec, painter and decorator, referee and hot dog man) asks me to confirm the following games
First xv v Worcester Wanderers
Development xv v Spartans (midlands)
Vandals v Old Halesonians
Come and enjoy a feast of rugby football and try one of Tom's Burgers, you'll love it!
