Old Yardleians 26 - Woodrush 10
A great game was had between these two very close sides with both teams opting to play a very open, flowing style of rugby. Some of the handling and passing on display was of a very high skill level and both teams have some great players in the making.
Right from the beginning the game swung from one end of the pitch to the other. Old Yardleians scored first with a try from Adam which was converted by Jack. Adam scored a second try soon after which went unconverted. Still in the first half, Jack scored a third try for Old Yardleians which he converted himself. Then, with the last play of the first half, Woodrush showed their fighting spirit by scoring a great try where the ball went through six or seven pairs of hands before being dotted down in the corner. Unfortunatly the conversion was missed.
Half Time - Old Yardleians 19, Woodrush 5
The second half started very much like the first with play sweeping from end to end. Woodrush opened the scoring with their second try of the game, but again the conversion was missed, just going narrowly wide of the post. Old Yardleians then scored their fourth try of the game with a well worked passage of play; the ball went from Gavin the scrum-half to Sam who came back on the break but was soon stopped by the defence. Sam managed to offload the ball to Jimmy who went over in the corner.
Jack converted the try to put Old Yardleians 26-10 ahead.
Woodrush proceeded to put the home team under all kinds of pressure and were camped in their half for the last five minutes. With the last play of the game Woodrush managed to drive over Old Yardleians line but lost control of the ball, when they really deserved to score, to end a very enjoyable game played in an excellent spirit.
The teams clapped their opponents off the pitch before dashing off to the clubhouse to wade into the delicious nosh provided by Sally and Kate.
