Old Yardleians RFC: Club News
First XV make hard work of it but it's another league victory

Big Ben signals success.
My reporters this week are coach Bobo and rising star Chicken plucked from semi-retirement to show the younger generation how rugby should be played.
Against a spirited Kings Norton side, it was the power of the Yards pack which formed the basis of victory. Supremacy in the set pieces with Tommo and Fridge dominating the scrums meant that the home side had plenty of possession and should really have won more comfortably than was the case. Tries came from Ben Honey with 3 (jug purchase time!), Lee Purdy and Andrew P. with Max Gimson kicking the rest of the points. With other kicks off-target, the scoreline might have been different. Thanks to KN for coming across for the game and we wish you the best for the rest of the season except for the returrn match!
The Vandals win down in rural Warwickshire
With scheduled opponents withdrawing from the original game we were lucky enough to find Shipston Vets/3rds in a similar situation and they gave us a very good game. Clearly a strong and well-organised side, they made us work hard for our victory. Our tries, 7 in total, were all scored by backs and were shared by Smokin, Lee and Simon S. The eventual score was a Yards win by 45 - 21. Thanks to Shipston for stepping in to play us at short notice. Martyn suggests that you look at his mention in the january edition of 'Rugby World'. In fact my suggestion is why not buy it for the wife/girlfriend/or whatever, as a special christmas present. I'm sure that it would be warmly appreciated.
Game on or off?
This is the time of year when the weather and non-availability of players tends to disrupt the fixture list. I will do my best to keep this website updated but double check with your captain that your game is on and where it is being played.
