Old Yardleians RFC: Club News
Back to normal ?
Fri, 07 Jan 2011 12:30
Greetings and may 2011 be your year!
I suspect that the weather has probably affected your fitness levels (players) and your waistlines (players and the rest of us). Furthermore, the location of the club and the slightly uncared for road conditions have combined to reduce our bar sales but that can be put right and I am sure it will be sorted, especially if we win our forthcoming games.
So, what's going on?
Saturday 8th January
An important league fixture for the 1st XV away to our local rivals, Woodrush, who are never easy to play against. I would imagine that they will be after revenge for the defeat we imposed on them in the home game earlier in the season.
The Development XV are at home against Woodrush 2nds in what should be a close game if our narrow victory at their club in the earlier fixture is anything to go by.
The Vandals
Fresh from their appearance at the BBC Sports personalities of the year show or at least in the Rugby World (January edition), our more mature players are due to visit Warley Vets.
Mini and Junior Section
Check with your team managers but all of our squads should be at the club by 10.30 for training. Next weekend, sunday 16th January sees all of our M/J teams in action at home against our friends from down the road, the Edwardians.
Do you remember?
Earlier in the week as I was visiting Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in sunny Solihull, I bumbed into an 'old face', well not all that old. If my memory serves me correctly he was a 2nd team prop and captain and he had a load of facial hair. I bet you're thinking Ian Wallace. Wrong! He was also a North Mids referee, and quite a good one. Give up? The bloke in question was Mick Ison. He informs me that he enjoys looking at our website, (that doubles the total readership). Good to see you Mick and thanks for passing on your best wishes to the club and its followers.
