Old Yardleians RFC: Club News
THE SEASON BEGINS FOR OUR MINIS AND JUNIORS
Wed, 31 Aug 2011 09:33
This sunday (4th September) marks the start of the rugby season for our youngsters. We would like to see you all arrive by 10.00 a.m. in order to set the tone for the season. Please bring kit suitable for training and don't forget a gumshield or you might lose those good looks! As you move up through the age levels the laws of the game change so be ready to learn.
The registration process takes place after training so allow yourself time, make sure you know your postcode etc. If you know that you will be unable to come along on sunday then please contact your coach/manager so that they know your intentions. If you have any friends who might like to give rugby a go then bring them along to training before the matches begin.
While the action is happening, refreshments will be available from the bar and/or kitchen. You will be able to chat to old friends but do not mention last sunday's football results. A plea to parents etc. we need help with a number of small tasks such as serving behind the bar, cooking the post-match food, setting up pitch flags and post protectors and bringing them in after the game, looking after the water container bottles and so on. Even if you volunteered for just an hour every now and again it would be doing the club and your child a big favour.
Senior teams
Last saturday a mixture of our First, Development and Vandals team players took part in a trial game against a youthful but plucky Harborne side. The visitors, fresh from promotion last season, played with a lot of enthusiasm (and warmed up in similar mode) and displayed an expansive style of game. However, the experience and physical power of the Yards team was a little too much for the visittors as the home side gained a reasonably satisfying win by 30-14. The many handling errors form the Ys need to be eliminated or wins will turn into defeats as we have previously discovered to our cost. Harborne, keep up the flowing rugby and consider a high-protein diet for your pack.
Fixtures for this saturday (3rd Sept)
At the moment the games are kicking off at 3pm as follows
First XV v Cleobury Mortimer (away in the cup)
Vandals XV v Tamworth (home)
And a message from she who knows most things
Doesn't time fly. Its amazing how quickly the new season comes around.
Cleobury is a really nice place to visit and she has a friend called Rachel who lives there. (How really interesting)
To show her knowledge of sport, she suggests that you take her advice and put a few quid on Coventry getting promoted. (keep dreaming darling!)
Quiz evening
At the club on friday 30th September from 7.30. Details to follow soon but organise your teams, max of 6 per team. General knowledge and the questions are easy, its just the answers that are tricky.
