Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT

Fri, 21 Oct 2011 01:45

She who has a brother (Hi there Mick !) living in The Emerald Isle decided that it was time to pay a visit so a flight was booked from Birmingham to a place built into the clouds of Western Ireland that goes by the name of Knock Airport. Galway City is a fine place where you are made very welcome.  Cloonfad, somewhere in Roscommon is much different. A village of one shop and two pubs in a remote area means that the pub is the hub of social activity.  Dougal, the young barman with a good mop of red hair, did his best.  When asked if they had music on offer (i.e. live band,) he scratched his head and after considerable thought offered to put the radio on.  Nice thought Dougal, that should bring in the crowds.

Early on the sunday afternoon I thought that I would see how the youngsters got on in their matches against the Eds.  So, I sent a text to a Lady who I won't name, but it rhymes with Karen or Baron, enquiring as to how things went, (in other words what the scores were).  However, her text reply informed me that there were a lot of tries and the Barbecue was a success.  Ah well, that's the important thing.

MINS AND JUNIORS

Eventually, I discovered the results that I was looking for.  The Eds are never easy to win against with local bragging rights up for grabs.
Nobody was certain but the concensus  was that we won at under 7 and 8 levels but lost at under 9s.  Our under 11s with new coach, Rob, proving an inspiration used their speedy runners to give a slightly inaccurate slant to the way the game went but if you have got it then use it (so they say).  In yet another competitive and close game our under 16s just about deserved their 17-10 win.  Well done to all our young stars of the future.

DEBBIE'S BONFIRE EXTRAVAGNZA

Not to be missed, come and see the spectacular show of fireworks (no, not our first team!) on Saturday 5th November.  Refreshments will be available for purchase.  Further details are available from Debs or Bobo.

SENIORS

Information received so far is that our first XV lost to Wolverhampton  but that the Vandals XV defeated their thirds.  I will add further news as it arrives.
Our best wishes go to Simon from the Vandals who received a serious leg injury the previous week in the Vandals win against Spartans.
