First XV    v   Old Coventrians      Lost  20 - 27

Under 16    v   Alcester                 Won  33 - 12

With the appeal of christmas shopping too much to resist, the teams scheduled to play against our Dev. XV and our Vandals XV both cried off at fairly short notice.  I sorted out my layers of clothing in order to watch our first team in their search for league points and to be honest the game could have been ours.  We looked good enough for significant spells of the game to have come away with a win and again, our back rower turned stand-off was in good form with the boot.  However, we leaked points due mainly to our poor first-up tackling allowing the Covs to get over the gain-line and score the tries that won them the game.  We cannot blame the referee this week as he had a very good game.

As I woke up on sunday morning and saw the ground covered by frost, I thought no chance of a game but 2 hours later and the thaw was sufficient to play against our Warwickshire visitors, Alcester.  It was not a good day to be a winger and cold fingers did not make handling the ball easy and if you don't believe me then ask Jordan or Tre'rail.  We won the game eventually by scoring 5 tries to their 2 tries and that is very much a result of being alert and taking the half-chances that came our way.  In ideal climatic conditions our front row of Tyrell, Josh and  Sam were very strong in both scrum and loose play and it was good to see Josh score his first try of the season. (your Dad is proud of you!). Alcester ran us closer than the final score suggests and I would like to thank them for the game.

Wishing a relaxing retirement to Mr Haydn Rees, who over the years has coached many of the young rugby players at St. Thomas Aquinas School, including a good number of our present youth teams.

Who needs defenders when you are only playing the Villa.  2-1, you got away lightly. Remember, Mr Wenger knows best.
