It's time for the talking to stop
First XV
Our first team play hosts to Handsworth Firsts this coming saturday, 1st September, a club which is the equivalent of one league division higher than us. They are always difficult to beat which should be ideal for us as it will allow us to discover if we have really improved over the summer or whether our imaginations are running wild. Kick off will be at 3.00 with NM Society referee Mike Jones taking charge of the game. It should be a good game to watch with admission and car parking free and refreshments available. A good result would be a real boost as we start our league fixtures the following weekend.
Development XV and Vandals
Both of our teams travel across to the outskirts of Walsall (WS5 3JP) to take on Handsworth 2nds and 3rds. The nature of our Dev team is that it is regularly looking at different combinations of players. So although consistency might be lacking, the team usually has a lot of younger players who perform with flair and enthusiasm. (I hope that I am not tempting fate ! ).
The Vandals, who range from young to ancient in terms of age, still play some scintilating rugby. The only thing that holds them back a little is that most of the players are nearer to the latter end of the age spectrum. Great things are expected from both our teams.
Minis and Juniors
This sunday (2nd September) is registration and training for all of our young players. Under 17s please at 10.00 and other teams please check with your managers. Well done to Mini-Fridge who gained a stack of grade A and A Star grades at GCSE. This might just challenge the widely held view that props and academia don't go hand in hand.
And Finally
Same story and no, I am not bitter. Some footballers and even some agents give the impression that greed prevails. As we all know, Mr Wenger knows best and if he says sell them off then off they go. So how about this season? well, unlike previous years, this time the defence is solid but it would be nice if we could just find a goal or two. It could be worse, the Clarets are falling apart and the Blues are not really looking like a promotion team.
