FROM THE SUBLIME TO THE ?

I thought that I would take a look at our up and coming Development team this week and I probably made the correct decision, as my spy in the sky (well he is tall)reported back to me on the first team's performance.
My man on the scene at Coventrians had the feeling that our boys are suffering from post-Baildon depression and that much of our performance reminded him of the bad old days of last season. A defeat by 8 - 18 was pretty disappointing to say the least and we hope that they can return to form this Saturday when they play second In the table, Atherstone, at home with a 3 o clock kick off.
When we play Camp Hill at any level there is often a bit of feeling and passion felt by the teams, being a local Derby but this game between the clubs was played in good spirit. Basically, Camps had a blend of old/experienced players and 3 or 4 young guys in the backs who did look sharp. So, what tactic did we use? Yes, you guessed, don't run through their slow pack but kick away good possession down the throats of their speedy backs. Someone must have worked it out but our pack, heavier by about 5 stone per man, decided to out muscle the Camps and with some clinical finishing from the likes of Tom Mead, Jacko etc, we got the win we deserved by 28 - 8. A special mention for our occasional scrum-half, Junior, who with his usual level of passion encouraged our youngsters to up their games. However, a little more time on the pitch would be great as we are sure you could change into your kit before half-time. Kick off next week Junior is at midday !
Our Vandals again suffered from opposition apathy which meant no game. But as you have probably seen 10 of our men played in the Greater Birmingham side that defeated Worcs/Herefordshire on sunday by 34-29
.
The under 7s went to Sutton and played very well indeed showing the home team how the game should be played. Great stuff lads.
The Under 17s with key players missing on county trials etc. lost narrowly to Fiveways. It was refreshing to see us run the ball from all over the park but we possibly need to realise that in sevens the game is rather shorter time wise than the full game.
