Old Yardleians RFC: Club News
BURSTING WITH ANTICIPATION
Wed, 28 Aug 2013 04:00
After a shocking start to the season, Mr Wenger again seems to be proving the critics wrong and I just hope that the run continues on Sunday. Anyway, that's the football covered.
Just for a treat, I got on the bike and visited the Eds to watch a pre-season friendly against a team that we have to face in our league by the name of Old Wheats. The Think Tank consisting of Luke, Fridge, Andy K. and myself were quite impressed by the Coventry side who were mobile and fairly well organised. It could be that the Eds were having an off-day but we will have to wait and see how we adapt to playing in a higher league than last season.
This Saturday (31st August)
We can offer you a drive out into the rural charms of Herefordshire to support our First XV in the North Midlands Shield where they take on Ledbury. To help you get there, aim for Ross Road, Ledbury. HR8 2LP. Kick off is scheduled for 3 pm.
For those with less inclination for travel, our Development XV led from the front by the Beast of Shirley, aka Luke, take on Handsworth Seconds, kick off 3 pm at home. Never an easy team to defeat so it should provide us with a stern test.
One more week to wait
Our senior chaps, the Vandals and our newly assembled Hornets XV will not be in action until the following weekend, but we are sure it will be worth the wait
Vice Presidents
No, not John Kerry, nor John Terry, but more like Tex Wales or Mick Ison. If your playing days are over, or if they never happened, but you would like to be a part of the club, give some thought to joining our V.P. group. Pre-match meals, a drink or two, tales of the 'Golden Era' and general social interaction are good value for your money, even if I don't know how much it will set you back. However, if you like the idea then contact Tex, Mick or Mark Baldwin.
A Special Birthday
.Don't forget, this Saturday at the club, starting whenever you want, come and join Steve Price, who will be eligible for free public transport to get him there. In terms of presents, he prefers funny cards, bottles of Scotch, and to be honest any alcoholic drink would be accepted.
