Thu, 12 Dec 2013 12:00

The Ones slipped to their third league defeat of the season on Saturday against a young & committed Ledbury side in front of a large home crowd over at Ledbury, boosted by a Vice President's lunch prior to the game. In a game where the lead changed throughout Yards tries came from skipper Ben Honey & scrum half Tom Grocott. Ultimately though, the home side played both the referee and the slope better in the second half with Ledbury's winning try coming in the dying minutes to clinch the game 26-21. Yards now slip to third place behind new leaders Coventry based Pinley. Yards now look to immediately bounce back this weekend with a home game against Nuneaton based side Manor Park who currently lie in mid table.

There was better news for the Club's lower sides as the second team comfortably despatched their Ledbury counterparts 33-12 in their Worcester & Hereford Merit League 1 clash, with a hat trick from Andy Pearce, and two tries from veteran three-quarter Ian Walker who also kicked four conversions. Similarly the Vandals won a hard fought game 21-5 against a previously unbeaten & much younger Ledbury 3rds in their Worcester & Hereford Merit League 3 game. Yards three tries were all scored in the first half by Chris Rowe, Barry Gunningham and Tony Fitzgerald, with Dave Rollins adding the three conversions. Capping off a bitter sweet weekend the Club's fourths the Hornets beat Birmingham Barbarians 1sts in a free scoring game 42-20.
