Weekend Round-up

The Ones bounced straight back from last week's defeat with a resounding bonus point 41-7 win over Nuneaton based side Manor Park. Yards were on top in all phases of the game, with the Yards pack constantly driving their opponents back in the scrums & mauls, providing their incisive backs with plenty of quality possession. Perhaps the pick of Yards' six tries saw winger Carl Bucknall sprint sixty metres to outflank the defence & score near the posts after being set free by some excellent handling skills in the midfield (ok in fairness it was the one I saw).
The other tries came from winger Andy Pearce, scrum half Tom Grocott, centre Tom Waters and a brace from No.8 Steve Grainger with fly half Jake White adding four conversions and a drop goal.

The Seconds travelled to Alcester for a friendly and overwhelmed their counterparts 70-5. Despite having only 14 players Yards still managed to dominate throughout scoring ten tries unusually all of which were converted; with veteran fly half Ian Walker converting nine before the Christmas spirit got the better of him allowing Dan McBride to kick the tenth. Alcester lost count however, looking at their website.

The Vandals won the historical match up of the day beating a strong Spartans 3rds 22-12. In a game where the Vandals eight had the upper hand from the opening encounter, the side's four tries were all scored by the fat boys, namely Alistair Gouldbourn, Gary Robinson, Shannon Killarney and promising youngster Alan Arkell, with Dave Rollins adding a conversion.
The Club's fourths the Hornets faced the long daunting trip over to Shropshire losing 32-7 to a well organised Bridgnorth 4ths.
