To celebrate Vandals scrum half Phil Evans' 50th birthday the Vandals travelled to Phil's former club Rugby St.Andrews to play their Vets including Phil's two lads. The opening exchanges were quite even with parity in the set pieces, but with the Vandals nudging the lineouts through Phil Gouldbourn. Gradually the Vandals began to warm to the task and were first to score through No.8 Ali Gouldbourn converted by Ralph Rollins followed not long after by fly half Max Gimson to reach a 12-0 half time lead. Shortly after halfime Rugby St.Andrews opened their account with an unconverted try. With both sides having large benches at their disposal Skipper Mark Baldwin was able to ring the changes at regular intervals experimenting in new weight & age records. The early part of the second half was spent largely in defence as the home side pushed for the equalising score, but it was the Vandals who scored next through Gary Robinson who bulldozed his way over to increase the lead to 17-5. This seemed to break the resistance of the home side and the coup de grace was added by Jason Goodwin with a break up the middle to go over close to the posts, with Dave McGill adding the conversion the final score was 24-5...and then the drinking began!
