Grand day on Saturday.
It was great to see so many VPs there and, for a change, even the weather smiled on us. Amongst the many who had traveled a long way to see us all were Dave Collen from Guernsey, Mick Louch from Scotland and Bert Black from Malvern. For those whose journey was more local I understand that bookings are now being taken for the early train from Snow Hill to Whitlocks End for the next VPs do! It was crowded out by rowdy OYs VPs on Saturday!
Gail and her team put on a wonderful spread and the only blemish on a splendid day was the loss to Old Saltlieans, and our subsequent relegation. We drowned our sorrows by having the odd jar or two in the sunshine after the match with the 1st team.
A couple of news items:
Martin Stone appeared in the dressing room at one of our recent away matches and after chatting to the lads left them £100 for a drink!
Ken Pipe left £1000 in his will to OYs.
Both of these incidents probably reflecting the strength of feeling that most of us have for OYs and our fervent hope that the club can continue to give to it?s members the same sense of belonging and companionship as it has always given to us.
See you at the next VPs lunch probably early next season. You will be notified in plenty of time about the actual date so no excuses!!!
Kind regards
Tex
