In the Beginning
The year 1980, the team read as follows:
Pembo, Tex, Hilton
Blox, Big Al
Bill Burrows, Steve Price, Chris Watts,
Jan Ullah, Tom Power, John Littleford, Tom Guise
Dave Adams, Roy Pugsley, Brian Wood.
The final saw the Old Yards thrash Dixonians by 3 points to nil, the points coming from a talented young centre.
Thirty-Five years on, Bert Black's dream is still the most popular pre-season tournament in the area.
This coming Saturday, 23rd August, at The Tilehouse Lane Complex, from 12.30 onwards, the following clubs will be discovering what shape they are in for the approaching season, Bridgnorth, Berkswell and Balsall, Willenhall, Leicester Vipers, Ashby, Birmingham Exiles, Tamworth, Moseley Oak and, of course, Old Yardleians.
Entry to the ground is free, as is car parking, refreshments will be available throughout the day and non members are warmly invited to come along and see what is really the start of the rugby season.
