FIRST XV
As we approach that time of year when it is not certain if summer really has gone or if it's just taking a break, what it means is that the rugby season is imminent. Training has been going well and the Moss Goode 15-a-side (congratulations to Vipers) again proved very worthwhile in helping our coaching staff check on our strengths and weaknesses.
Next on the fixture list comes the North Midlands Shield. A bye in the first round has meant a mouth-watering home match in the next round against local rivals Edwardians. No longer the whipping boys, they have improved considerably over the last few seasons gaining success in both league and cup, with a Twickenham final the highlight of many careers.
Not to be missed, this Saturday, 3.00 kick off at Tilehouse Lane. Referee is Jim Looney of the North Mids Society, a quality appointment.
We have always had a good relationship with the Eds and we hope that it will continue. However, I hope that we give them a lesson in rugby, beat them by as many points as possible and then have a drink with them after the game.
SECOND/DEVELOPMENT XV
Our youngsters opened the season with an entertaining draw against the Old Salts and this week face a very useful Handsworth 2nds at home. Kick off 3.00
VANDALS
Our slightly more experienced side visit Handsworth 3rds (WS5 3JP) and with the hard training routine they have been through, it will take a very good team to prevent us from winning.
CALLING NON-TRAINERS
Chicken is waiting, get your act together and declare your availability.
MINIS/JUNIORS
It was great to see so many of you on Sunday as we look to build on the success of last season. Same again this week please.
CHARITY QUIZ EVENING
A massive thank-you to all those who helped make it a really good evening, Pat and Shannon, Bill from next door, Rick, Sue and Kieran Thorne, all the contestants, and that ruggedly handsome fella. The winning team consisted of Tom, (on the day he retired, how nice), Jude, Ellie and Nick, Anne and Bryn.
The sum raised was £260 which has been sent to the two nominated Charities.
