Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON AT THE OLD YARDS ?

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 12:00

Contrary to the thoughts of some of our members, the club does not hibernate from May to September. In fact, more goes on than most of us realise.

Natwest working parties
That supporter of Rugby Football, Natwest, sponsor clubs who have shown some initiative in developing and improving the facilities at their own clubs. So whatever your talents, or lack of talents, we would very much like to see you at the club.

We have four sessions for you to choose from.
Saturday 27 June from 10 to 1.   or  from 2 to 5
Sunday  28 June  from 10 to 1  or  from 2 to 5.

In return for your graft, the club are willing to reward you with very cheap beer and succulent burgers etc from Cafe Pricey. (that being Steve's name not the cost of the food). Further details from Andy Killarney on 07910030958.

Charity Events
As a club we are usually very good at supporting worthwhile charities. Last Saturday saw the club host an evening of musical and social extravaganza with the end result being a very generous sum raised which will go to the Nepalese Disaster fund. Thanks to all who contributed in any way.

The Midlands Air Ambulance is run on a charitable basis and is of great value to players of Rugby whatever their size, shape or age. Matt Harrison is going to take part on a bike ride from Birmingham to Oxford and would really appreciate any sponsorship. If you would like to contribute, contact Matt or Andy Killarney at the club.

You probably realise that if you risk taking the journey  through the trees onto the top pitch, that you might come across some people with bows and arrows.  We hire out our facilities to Solihull Archers who are a recognised club. They have supported charity sessions arranged by me, Dave Adams, and which have been attended by members and friends of our club. Not only are they good fun, but they also come with a succulent Fish and Chip feast. If you fancy having a go at archery contact either myself or use the link on the website to contact the Archery club directly. Again, thanks to all who took part and thanks to the Station Fish and Chip Shop for bringing our supper to the club. The star shooters on the day were probably Mr President , Steve Painter and out of the females, I hate to say it but Ellie Adams performed impressively.

Broadfield bakes better bread.

Next time you come down to the club, you will understand.

Diary Dates

Tomorrow, Debs invites you to the AGM of our Mini and Junior section. If you are thinking about coaching or maybe you have children who are interested in joining our club then come along.

Wednesday 5th August sees the next Charity Quiz at the club from 7.00 till about 10.00.  Due to popular demand I am seriously thinking about making Fish and Chip suppers available.

And Finally

I thought you Villa fans got away lightly with just the four goals, but there is always another year !
