First XVThe season began with a difficult match against our rivals from Water Orton,Old Salts, who, by chance, are also in our league and who we play shortly.
Dave Hanson, my knowledgeable friend, made some valid observations from the touchline. His concern was that our defending skills and tactical alertness were not as they should be. We were hit by the Salts power and determination in the early stages and their basic but effective game plan of committing our players to the breakdown and then using good handling to put their runners into the gaps was effective.
Dave also noted that whenever the visitors got into attacking areas, they looked quite likely to score but when we got into those situations a try looked unlikely. The secret now is to work out why that should be the case.
I did not bring my abacus but Fridge tells me the final score was 12 - 30 to the deserved winners. Well done to their coach, Nick Sporcic,'The Voice of Pontypridd.'
What's next?
It appears that our defeat takes us out of the N.Mids Shield and into the N. Mids Plate. That means that we have a 'plate' match next Saturday which will be at home to Pershore kick off 3.00
Join us for a charity walk this coming Sunday.
Could you manage a 5 mile walk through Warwickshire countryside starting from Packwood House at 10.00 a.m. and hopefully finishing there too followed by a drink in The Navigation at Lapworth. The charity organising the walk is Parkinson's U.K. and if you find their website, then look under 'warwickshirewalks',it is cheaper to register your entry before Sunday than on the actual day itself. You do not have to belong to our club to take part, the more the better, as a cure would be very good news.
