Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

Good game and you can see why they are top of the league.

Plenty of tries

It was not the best of conditions as we played host to the league leaders, Moseley Oak.
Our opponents were well drilled and clinical in their finishing and although we often got into try scoring range the scoreboard suggested that we were not as efficient as our visitors.

A final score of 29-59  means either scintillating attacking play or suspect defence. Draw your own conclusions but at least we picked up a bonus point.

The Good Old Days.

Many moons ago, before leagues were invented, a Boxing Day friendly was the order of the day. Kick offs were always later than advertised and handling errors were frequent.

My fondest memory was a Boxing Day game, back in the 1980's. The venue is now a 'Park and Ride' railway station which goes by the name of 'Whitlocks End'. Well, it used to be the location of Yardley and District RFC . The changing facilities and Bar were fairly basic but the game commenced.
Returning to the changing room after a comfortable win,we noticed a river flowing out from under the door. Once inside there were shoes, socks and many other bits and pieces floating around. Even more of a concern was that the Bar was under a foot of water. All of this because somebody forgot to turn the tap off when the bath was full. Apparently the flowing liquid was on a par with the Brew. What do you think Rob?
