Saturday Afternoon, not much else to do so where else but the Club. I arrived just as teams were warming up. Not such a large crowd but understandable really as the weather had not been too special. With new Manager, Dave Simpson, running the show and the pack dominating possession, the youthful Bournville back line had few opportunities to shine. Ivor a long-serving Bournville man was particularly impressed by that mobile prop, Peter Butler. The final score was 22-10 in favour of the Yards and Dave Simpson in his post match analysis felt that his new clipboard had played a significant part in the win as did the speed and power shown by his pack of forwards.
The First Team travelled to Stourbridge for a league game. Although we defeated them at home earlier in the season, our generosity was far too great and a final score of 22-50 tells its own story. My Chief Reporter, John Lonie, has a theory concerning our First team displays. It seems, so John thinks, that we produce low scoring, tightly contested matches which we lose by the odd point or two or we go for the Barbarian style of game in which we score freely but our opponents score even more freely. When asked for a possible solution, John suggested that he would offer his experience to our coaching team and that psychology had a part to play.
