NEW SEASON means NEW CHALLENGES

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 12:00

It seems only yesterday when we overcame Droitwich and lifted yet another trophy but August is soon to be upon us so what lies ahead for us? Our First XV has a lot of potential both in the pack and in the back division. However, it does not always seem to click as a team. I might be wrong but as I see things regular training together and availability for all games makes a vast difference on the pitch. Next on my list would be the importance of keeping our discipline and not conceding so many penalties. Welcome to new coach, Richard Bragg, and it is up to our players to make sure that they respond to his appointment. We have an interesting programme of fixtures to start the coming season. In the Midlands competition, a home tie against Malvern usually means our forwards gaining superiority and the backs completing the job. In the North Mids Shield a trip out to rural Shropshire to face Cleobury Mortimor gives us the chance to meet up with one time Old Yards Prop, Hilton Smith, and the farming family Allen, especially Freddie who makes a living in the business of sticking his hand up places where we more urban dwellers would not go! Not easy games but I would be disappointed if we did not win them both. I must mention the Charity archery event that took place at the club last Saturday. Thank you to the Solihull Archers for their expertise and a mention for the top shooter of the day, former Matron Judith Bridge, as she did buy the beer. Most improved award goes to Bruno, a man of many talents.
