Back to reality on the Rugby front.Division 2 west /north does not offer a breathing space for any of its teams and although there have been signs of improvement in many areas of our game, league points are what we need to secure our league status. Coach Chinny was positive about our display at Stafford with much of the possession and territory going our way, but we lost 0-12.
This weekend saw our First Team play host to league leaders, Stourbridge. The final score of 10-30 was not really a true reflection of our performance but the reality is clear and when our visitors managed to gain some possession they either scored or were stopped short by good tackling. On the other hand, when we attacked, it seemed that try scoring was beyond us.
Our next fixture is this Saturday at Tamworth, not an easy game but if our improvement is maintained then I believe that we might be turning the corner. The sooner that happens the better our chances are of climbing the table.
Our other teams
That finely tuned athlete, Luke, mentioned briefly in passing that he scored three tries as our Development Team defeated a much improved Aldridge First team 36-26. That is probably more points than he scored in the previous night's quiz. Well done Luke.
A much changed Third team visited Bournville and I suspect that the lack of information means that we came second.
With freezing weather causing confusion as to whether it was safe to play or not and touch rugby or full contact mayhem reigned. Lets hope that Debbie can organise a 'Sun Dance' for the coming Sunday.
Charity Quiz
A friendly but competitive quiz evening helped raise over £400 for our two charities, Parkinsons' U.K. and Cancer research. In joint first place were two teams from the Saint Alpheges Badminton club. Yes, I am a member but that did not affect the marking.Tom and Sid's team were going well until Graham Davies arrived to join them. The loudest team was a close thing between Luke's mob and the Monkspath nutters. Thanks to all who supported the event and to those who ran the bar, cleaned the club, sold the raffle tickets and delivered the Fish and Chips.
Vice Presidents
Thanks to Mick and Pat and all those who helped make the occasion such a success as many of our stars from the dark ages gathered for a smashing lunch, a drink or two and half believable tales. Robin Sadler's attempted drop goal was about as close to clearing the bar as Fridge turning up on time.
