First TeamAs I was not able to make the journey to Tamworth to watch our boys in action, I asked a number of our followers for their thoughts on the game, First mistake. In future call them earlier before the Staffordshire ales take effect. The background thinking was that we lost the home game against them earlier in the season by a very narrow margain so we could judge our progress by comparing the two performances.
So, I glanced at the Tamworth website and the home side writer considered the outcome to be 'too close for comfort' and that massive credit must go to the Old Yards who were the better team for much of the match. Very good to read such positive comments but I would much prefer League points to pleasantries.
We have taken steps in the right direction but what we need in our remaining games is support and encouragement from the touchline, blood, sweat and tears at training and maximum points from our boys on the pitch.
Stars of the future
The Sunday morning mob are growing in numbers and performance levels. Keresley, Salts, Exiles, to name a few have discovered this at first hand.
In addition an old time follower and admirer of our club, Mr Richard Beckett,a highly respected official in the Cheshire and Lancashire area visited us on Sunday to collect ideas which could be used in his part of the world. He was very impressed by the game between our under 13s and Exiles. The quality and style of refereeing was of the highest order with the man with the whistle (Bobo) getting the balance between advantage and explanation spot on. In technical aspects, he felt that the rucking skills had been well coached and applied. He would like to pass on his thanks tto all involved.
Six Nations
The bookies say England but the heart feels that flair and home advantage might be significant. Let's wait and see.
