OLD YARDS 72, SHREWSBURY 20
The situation was clear and our destiny was in our own hands. Win and stay up, lose and drop down. The weather was perfect, there was a good crowd, the warm up was comprehensive, surely nothing could go wrong.
From the start our scrum was under pressure and our opponents had a couple of very quick backs who broke through our defence with worrying ease. Not for the first time this season, we conceded the first 15-20 minutes. But then it all seemed to click. Line out ball was ours, the scrums settled down and tackles were generally effective. To the delight of the crowd on the home side of the ground, our powerful winger, much criticised Andy Pearce took a pass and with no room for manouvre and carried three defenders with him to score the try we wanted to see.
There was more to come. Regular try scorers, Stephan the hooker, Captain Brennan and Liam, made sure that we got a bonus point. Chinnie looked pleased, Sid looked bewildered, Jack who has been a real star since returning got a harsh yellow, according to Kim and Dean Scandrett got the beer.
Arsenal thrashed Man City and Gabriel beat the Blues single handed. It's amazing what good teachers can do.
Not much of the season remaining so enjoy the various social events being offered, come to the AGM, It is your club so support it.
Let's make next season a success if only to keep us old blokes happy.
Cheers,
Dave.
