Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

WELCOME TO OUR NEW COACHING TEAM

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 12:00

The Old Yards committee have appointed a new team of three coaches led by Clive Chapman. Having seen pictures of Clive, I suspect that his playing career was mainly spent in the front row. He is supported by Tony Skehan and by David Hawkins.

As a player Clive has performed at Kynoch, Kings Norton, Solihull and with the Army.  His coaching career has developed through working with club teams, Junior sides and representative squads.

Having asked Clive about his philosophy regarding player development he pointed out that for coaching to be effective it had to be fun but it needed also to be relevant to the needs of the individual player and the team. He also made it very clear that the players were responsible for their part in maintaining their individual fitness  attending training, and making themselves available for selection on a regular basis. I believe that the club must be pro-active in supporting the coaching team.

Clive has asked me to let you know that if there are any areas of concern regarding his role that you would like to discuss with him that he would be very willing to do so.

We are also very fortunate to have Tony Skehan supporting Clive and David Hawkins who will look after the Developing players and will fill the role of player / coach for the second team.

Clive, Tony and Dave, we wish you an enjoyable and successful season.
