Old Yardleians RFC: Club News

What is happening at your club?

As you will probably have seen and heard, Cyril Hayward another of our club servants, has sadly passed away.  It seems to me that we are losing many good people and Cyril does fall into that category.

The Old Yardleians send their condolences to his friends and family and as soon as I receive any more information regarding funeral arrangements then I will pass them on to you.

May he rest in peace.

I previously mentioned our new coaching panel and I met them and had a chat about their aspirations for the playing side of the club. Clive is the senior coach and working with him is Tony Skehan, a playing colleague of mine too long ago to remember. Actually, he was a decent hooker. Last season he was our technical and match analysis expert or you could say, 'the bloke standing in freezing cold weather filming our first team games' which were then used to focus areas for improvement.

The third member of our coaching team is Dave Hawkins, a former student of Alderbrook School. I actually remember Dave from his appearances for the school as he was in the same underachieving teams as my son, Bryn. But they enjoyed it, especially when Mr Morris, one time Old Yards player, needed the pack of forwards to bump start the mini- bus.  Dave will be mainly looking after our Development squad and, hopefully pushing them towards first team appearances.

The Stars of the future, i.e. our Mini and Junior, teams are already preparing for the new season. The rate of improvement has been staggering and we all hope it will continue. New players are invited to come along and could well be pleasantly surprised by what they see.

On the social front, you are all invited to join us at the club on Saturday when we will be almost giving drinks away at ridiculous prices and a BBQ will be in operation to soak up the alcohol.

There will be a charity quiz evening at the club on Friday the 8th September from 7.15. It is not University Challenge, even front row players might know some of the answers so come along, grab some friends and make a team of between 3 and 6 players. Further details from Dave Adams.
