CYRIL BURTONSadly news has reached us of the death of Cyril, a long time member of the Old Yardleians club who was made a Life Member in recognition of the work he did for us.
My memory was of a well groomed referee in a spotless white society shirt. He could be relied on to be at the club to see if he was needed and if all the allocated referees had arrived he would run touch.
I am not convinced that every decision he made was correct but he was such a nice bloke that you didn't want to upset him, so yes, of course you got it right ref !
As soon as we receive any further information I will pass it on via this site. Meanwhile we think that the funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday 20th February at 12.15 at Hall Green church which is located on the junction of Foxhollies road and School road. This will be followed by a family cremation service at Robin Hood Crematorium and afterwards the Arden Tennis Club on Sharmans Cross Road will be the venue for the wake.
Out of respect I will make this the only item to feature on the site this week.
Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
