The following was received from Dave Collen after the recent cancellation due to snow.
"Hi Dave (Adams)/Mick (Ison),
I note from the OYRFC website that today's fixtures are off due to snow.
This prompted a delve into the archives, and I came up with the attached pic.
It is a cutting from The Solihull News, 22nd February 1969. The reporter came to cover the game, against Old Halesonians, which both teams were keen to play, but the referee pointed out that although he couldn't stop us kicking off, he could halt play immediately if he considered it dangerous. So we retired to the bar.
Pictured l-r are Dave Collen (pulling pint), Andy Dunn (quaffing pint), John Pearson*, Dave Crampton, Roger Martin*, Dave (faintly) Hall*, Eddie Hartwell (smoking with gloves on - poser!), Bob (Tanky) Tynan, and Ivor Enoch* Sadly, those starred* are no longer with us.
The referee was Ken Pattinson, North Midlands and International Panel referee. I checked him out on Google to find that he had recently died, aged 79, and his funeral was, in fact, on Tuesday of this week.
Dave, I hope you will be able to post this on the OY's website
Mick, If you could post this to the VPs, it will, I think, be of interest to the older generation.
Many thanks gents.
Dave Collen"
