Pat, Shannon and a fairly extended family group along with a number of friends selected the hottest weekend of the year to celebrate Pats Birthday which took place a while ago and that of her sister Sandra. The ambitious celebration stretched over three days. As I arrived at the club at about midday on Friday, Pat was in her office, AKA the kitchen while Luke and Tom were planning the layout of the first team pitch to prepare for the many tents and camper vans that were due to arrive in the afternoon and early evening.
By seven, a good number of people had arrived including family, friends, and club members. The first activity of the evening was a quiz prepared by a young man by the name of Tom. With so much knowledge in one team, Myself, Tom Power, Bill Collins as well as Anne, Linda and Gina, victory seemed inevitable. However, changing answers at the last moment was our downfall. All I can say is Cyprus, Oliver Reed and 13 teams.
Saturday eventually arrived as did our guests from Greece with their dance, cuisine and enthusiasm.
Music of the highest order from a collection of talented artistes took us into the night.
A fact of life is that Teachers will meet more pupils than the other way around. So when I bumpted into the Hewlett family there was no escape. My ego dropped when they told me that they were 44 and 46 years old but recovered when they acknowledged that I had been their best ever teacher. Wonderful memories of the Archbishop Grimshaw School.
