High temperatures and concrete pitches have not made training all that attractive but we must make up for lost time if we are to put right some of the disappointing aspects we encountered last season. There are signs already that things are improving and our first warm up game produced a win against Handsworth. This was followed by a short bus journey to Porthcawl which produced a narrow win for the home team. We can only wonder what might have happened if we had not gone to unopposed scrums. Tries by Alex Hope and Adam Madeley were not quite enough with a final score of 17-12 not really doing us justice.
This coming Saturday marks the start of the real season as we begin with a cup game away to Harborne which kicks off at 3.00. The venue is Metchley Park Road which is almost next door to the Q.E. Hospital. It would be encouraging for our young team if we could get over there and show support.
Our Mini and Junior section (stars of the future) will be in action very soon so get in touch with your team coach or team manager or Debs for up to date information regarding registration, subscriptions, training and fixtures.
Our club is becoming very popular as a party or business venue which generates funds for the club. If you know of anybody who might be interested in hiring the facility then put them in touch with any of our committee who will run through the procedures.
Pat and Shannon celebrated her birthday in style with a whole weekend of activities for her friends and family. Pat, you do not look that old, but Shannon, that is a different story.
I never realised that we had so many clever people in our club but on Friday evening, 11 teams of academics came along to support our two charities. Over three hundred pounds was raised and will be sent to Cancer Research UK and Parkinsons UK .
My thanks go to Bill, Gina and,Pat for running the bar,Shannon for his last minute Paxman performance, (apart from his singing), Anne and Linda Bailey and my Dutch Badminton friends, Jan, Anna and Alex who did the scoring.
