On the Playing Front
Times are not easy and many clubs across the country are struggling to field as many regular sides as they were a couple of years ago. Yesterday we put out two senior sides which is not particularly wonderful but many other clubs would be very pleased with that situation.
It seems to me that Rugby is becoming a spectator sport rather than a participation one. Televised matches are a source of income at the top end while those clubs lower down the spectrum struggle to get by.
Off the Pitch
Much more important in my view is the health and welfare of our club members. Only a week or so ago we heard about the loss of Beau (Ernol) Campbell. A smashing bloke and a very good prop forward, he died while still a relatively young man.
I will put out details of his funeral by the end of the day.
Bert (Keith) Black a big man, a great club figure as a traditional style prop and captain, has been diagnosed with cancer and in his case it is terminal.
Mick Bloxham could provide you with more information.
Given the opportunity, it would be good if you were able to support the family and friends in any way you feel appropriate. If you do say your prayers, make sure that you include Bo and Bert.
